Media Advisory WHAT: The Benefits & Challenges of Foster Care Mentoring A Panel Discussion “The Benefits and Challenges of Foster Care Mentoring” is an interactive panel discussion designed to raise awareness of the needs of more than two thousand children in the District of Columbia—children in the foster care system. The panel will address questions from the audience. The discussion is designed to generate increased community involvement. Panelists: The Honorable Anita Josey-Herring, Presiding Judge of Family Court of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia; Dr. Marilyn Benoit, Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center and former President of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; Roque Gerald, Interim Director of the Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) of the District of Columbia. Moderator: Councilman Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6). Councilman Wells is a trained social worker and currently chairs the Committee on Human Services, which oversees CFSA and other matters and agencies concerning welfare, social services, and youth affairs. Sponsor: BEST Kids, Inc. a non-profit mentoring organization dedicated to providing trained and committed volunteer mentors for children in the foster care system in the District of Columbia.
