On making the appointment, Todd Leibbrand, President of BEST Kids called Henderson “one of the industry’s best and brightest.” Leibbrand continues, “BEST Kids is fortunate to have identified someone like LaMar who brings a wealth of professional experience that includes classroom teaching, child policy research, counseling, and family therapy. As we embark on 2007, we are looking forward to growing our peer group program and I have tapped LaMar to lead its design and implementation.” Henderson, a Syracuse University and Howard University trained clinical social worker, also holds a certificate in psychotherapy and program evaluation and research from the Yale University School of Medicine, Child Study Center and received training at the Yale University’s Center on Child Development and Social Policy. “I’m excited about my new post and eager to put my interest, skills, and professional experiences in social work and family services to work for BEST Kids,” Henderson said. “What brought me to this young, dynamic organization was the passion and commitment that Todd Leibbrand and Brian Sales, BEST Kids Director of Operations, bring to the work that they do and to the children and families that they serve through mentoring. “Through them and BEST Kids, you feel inspired to work to bring about needed change in the lives foster children,” Henderson added. Before joining BEST KIDS, Henderson was a forensic interviewer and evaluator for Safe Shores, part of the Washington, DC Children’s Advocacy Center. Here, Mr. Henderson conducted forensic interviews with alleged child/adolescent abuse victims. Immediately prior to Safe Shores, Mr. Henderson was a Clinical Social Worker at the Child Study Center at Yale University’s School of Medicine. He holds memberships in several professional organizations including the National Association of Black Social Workers, the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. WASHINGTON—BEST Kids, Inc. announces the appointment of LaMar Henderson, MSW, LiCSW, as the organization’s first Director of Mentoring Services. Best Kids, Inc. was the first organization to place long-term volunteer mentors with foster care children under a Volunteer Mentoring Partnership Agreement with Child & Family Services Agency of the District of Columbia. Henderson, who assumed his duties on January 2, will support BEST Kids’ mentors and oversee partnerships with local caregivers and social workers.
