Thank you to our amazing facilitators and mentor leaders who helped make this project possible. The care and support provided to our mentors related to racism and racial justice has been invaluable to their growth and our improvement as an organization. We look forward to continuing this important work together.

Each week we had 4 of our very own mentors voluntarily assist in facilitating small-group sessions with their fellow mentors and BEST Kids staff. We thank them for their willingness to help, their vulnerability, and their leadership. Mentor Co-Facilitators:
  • Megan Brew
  • Lauren Gilbertson
  • Jillian Klarman
  • Roxi Reeves

Supported by BEST Kids staff members:
Walter MacDougall & Andy Miller

Feedback and Takeaways from Our Mentors

The workshop increased my awareness of diversity concepts.

The sessions improved each time which is really amazing . I thought the first was  great so I'm impressed and thankful that there was so much care put into this to make improvements.

One thing I am taking from this workshop is acknowledging my own racism and frequently checking  it, while  listening to her and working  to be come  an effective ally, accomplice, co-conspirator.

I will use some of the concepts learned in these workshops in my service at BEST Kids.

I'm more committed now to making  sure  my mentee has space to speak her mind and feel supported. I will also try to better check my privilege in our relationship.
